Wechselpräposition

Overview

Wechselpräpositionen (two-way prepositions) take either the Dativ or the Akkusativ. The case depends on meaning, not on which preposition you pick: location versus movement. Use Dativ when something is already somewhere (wo?), and Akkusativ when something moves toward a destination (wohin?).

The nine Wechselpräpositionen are: an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen.
